The final week:

After you have completed the writing test, your last task of the semester is to complete the online course (on Moodle) if you have not already done so. If you need to do that, simply go to Moodle and find the course listed as videos to watch and quizzes to complete online. You can take the quizzes more than once if you failed the first time. 

If you have completed the online course quizzes, congratulations! You have completed the requirements for College English 1! After I have graded the reading and writing tests, probably after week 18, I will calculate your scores and send you a list of them by email. Then you will have the opportunity to check them before they are submitted to the university.

Prepare for the Reading Exam by reviewing all of the stories in the book. You will be tested on the details from Story 1 - Story 6.

No class meeting on 12/12! Do this homework instead.

Complete the ONLINE COURSE on Moodle. You should have access to Moodle because you are registered for this course. Follow the instructions on Moodle. 

For the online course, you will need to watch videos and complete the Checkpoint Quizzes. 

Step 1: Please watch the introduction video. This is the first video (before you watch Unit 1) called Introduction to Cross-Cultural Communication. Click on that link and watch the video.

Step 2: Watch the videos (Units 1-3) and complete the Checkpoint Quiz (or quizzes) for each unit.

Note: This course must be completed by Thursday (12/12)! Use the class time to complete it. The course will close after Thursday! If you see this announcement before 12/12 and want to finish before Thursday, you may do that! The course is open now! (Go to Moodle.) You get to choose which topic: a or b. Don't choose both topics.

1. Get the ebook: Please buy the ebook of Life at the International House, Season One by Dave A. Gardener. Here is the link to buy it on Amazon.


If you get the ebook on Amazon at the link above, you will need to sign into your Amazon account, which is free, and open it on a Kindle app, which is also free in your App store on your device. There are other ways to get the book as I mentioned in class. You can get it on Apple Books if you have an iPhone or iPad. You can also get it on Ratuken Kobo or at the publisher Lulu.com.

Currently, the best way to get the book is on Kobo. Click on the link below to find it. It is also offered at a small discount! 


2. Read Story 1: First Impressions. The story is about a Mexican immigrant student who moves into an off-campus house near her university in Southern California. Please read the story and try to understand the vocabulary. We will discuss the story next week. In class, we will not have time to translate the vocabulary, so please translate any vocabulary before coming to class.

3. Reading Journal 1. Please write your first reading journal. Remember to answer the questions below in two separate paragraphs (or longer).
